Olufunmilayo Banjo

Dr. Olufunmilayo Banjo is a dedicated researcher and university educator whose work is driven by a commitment to expanding knowledge through high-quality publications and real-time, impactful research. Since completing her PhD, she has remained focused on broadening her scholarly horizon while fostering a strong research culture among the graduate students she supervises. Her goal is to mentor and develop emerging scholars who can excel confidently among their peers anywhere in the world. A significant milestone in her career was her post-doctoral scholarship at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa, supported by the prestigious CARTA post-doctoral grant. This experience strengthened her research capacity and significantly enhanced her publication record through collaborations with leading researchers. With the support of a re-entry grant, she has continued to build on these collaborations, further expanding her opportunities for research and scholarly output. Upon returning to her institution in December 2026, Dr. Banjo successfully mentored several MSc students, two of whom have progressed to PhD studies under her supervision following the timely completion of their master’s programmes. Although she acknowledges that she has not yet reached her ultimate career destination, she continues to make steady and meaningful progress, confident that the future holds even greater achievements. Research outputs from her post-doctoral period contributed to her appointment as a Senior Lecturer, and the foundation built during that time is expected to support her advancement to Associate Professor in the coming years. In addition to her publication efforts, Dr. Banjo is committed to interdisciplinary collaboration, particularly in developing competitive research grant proposals. While some grant applications are still under review, she aspires to secure funding that will enable her to conduct research capable of influencing policy decisions in her country. Driven, collaborative, and passionate about academic growth, Dr. Banjo continues to contribute to knowledge, mentor the next generation of scholars, and pursue research that makes a meaningful societal impact.
