Save Kumwenda

Save holds a BSc in Environmental Health obtained in 2003, Master of Public Health obtained in 2009 and PhD in Public Health obtained in 2019 with specialty in Environmental Health Epidemiology. All the three qualifications were obtained from University of Malawi. He started his career as an Authors Associate in Environmental Health Epidemiology in 2004 at University of Malawi, the Polytechnic (Now Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences) in the Department of Environmental Health. He then moved to Assistant Lecturer in 2006, Lecturer in 2009, Senior lecturer in 2014 and now Associate Professor and also Head of Environmental Health Department. His research interests are on investigating risks associated with environmental health interventions implemented in communities and currently he also intends to investigate the implementation of one health approach in disease prevention. Currently, he have done much research in field of water, sanitation, hygiene and food hygiene. While doing research in food hygiene, he observed how domestic animals interact with human beings especially in rural areas and developed interest in one health approach. Save hopes to explore more in the field in the next years. His aspirations are to get and implement research grants, improve in teaching and also write papers and a book on environmental health epidemiology in low resourced setting. In terms of professional aspirations, he would want to get promoted to rank of a professor in the next few years to come.
