Kellen Karimi

Kellen Joyce Karimi, MPH, BSc. Research Associate and teaching assistant at the School of Public Health, University of Nairobi. I hold a Master of Public Health Degree from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry for the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. Pursuing PhD in Public Health. Experience Teaching assistant role: Preparing undergraduate students at the school of medicine for Health center practices. This involves development of objectives based on the health systems building blocks that impact on health outcomes at the community level. Students develop objectives and data collection tools for the purpose of collecting data at the health facilities. The students then analyze the data collected. The structure is aimed at developing research skills among undergraduate students and prepare students for management of a health facility. I have participated in Health Systems Research under the Africa Hub Project, by building capacity among multidisciplinary groups of students, to innovatively develop low cost innovative solutions to healthcare delivery problems. Experience in conducting community research on Non-community diseases in rural and urban informal settlements. Student mentor- both undergraduate from multiple disciplines towards development of innovative solutions to health problems and post-graduate students during their final year of study; through proposal development. Proficient project management for different types of research settings. This also include monitoring and evaluation. Research interest is in community health which forms an integral part of the health system and a proxy for a healthy population.
