Charles Ssemugabo

Charles Ssemugabo is an Environmental / Public Health scientist by training, currently a Research Associate in the Department of Disease Control and Environmental Health at Makerere University School of Public Health where he is involved in teaching, student supervision and mentorship, research and community services. Charles has a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health Sciences from Makerere University, a Master’s degree in Public Health from Uganda Martyrs University and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Pesticide Risk Management from University of Cape Town. He has extensive experience in designing and coordinating research projects with a particular focus in pesticide poisoning; non-communicable diseases; trauma, injuries and disability; community health workers; gender and ethics; and neglected tropical diseases. He has led a study that assessed management of pesticide poisoning among Hospitals in Kampala. He has published 13 scientific papers in peer reviewed journals and attended and presented abstracts in several local and international conferences. He has also supervised seven graduate and ten undergraduate students’ dissertations to completion. Currently, Charles is undertaking his PhD that is focusing on Pesticide residues and health risk assessment of fruits and vegetables among consumers in Kampala, Uganda. In 2016, he was selected as an emerging voice for global health by health system global, a network that brings together health systems researchers.
