Rose Opiyo

Rose Okoyo Opiyo is a Public Health Nutritionist and Senior Lecturer, currently serving (2023–2026) as Head of the Department of Public and Global Health at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Nairobi (UoN). She holds a PhD in Human Nutrition (UoN, CARTA PhD Scholarship), an MSc in Applied Human Nutrition (UoN), and a Bachelor of Education in Home Economics (Kenyatta University). Rose supports nutrition training and research at the East Africa Kidney Institute and contributes to research capacity building through CARTA in partner institutions, currently serving as the CARTA Focal Person at UoN. She is also a member of the Kenya Ministry of Health’s Nutrition Technical Committees and the St Paul’s University Research Ethics Review Committee. Her research interests include maternal and child nutrition, nutrition in chronic disease, food systems and nutrition security, health promotion in schools, Nutrition and One Health, and mixed methods research. Her current project focuses on co-creating local food-based renal diet recipes for authors living with chronic kidney disease in Kenya, supported by a Science for Africa (SFA Foundation) seed grant. She has published about 30 peer-reviewed scientific papers and two book chapters.
