Taiwo Obembe

Dr. Taiwo Akinyode Obembe is a medical practitioner and Lecturer in the Department of Health Policy and Management, Faculty of Public Health, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He is a physician-scientist and health policy scholar whose work focuses on improving health system performance, financing equity, and access to essential health services in low- and middle-income countries. His academic and research activities center on health policy, health systems strengthening, and health care financing, with particular emphasis on universal health coverage. His research examines how households cope with the financial burden of medical and surgical care, generating policy-relevant evidence to inform health financing reforms and improve financial risk protection. Through teaching, policy-oriented research, and programme evaluation, Dr. Obembe contributes to evidence that supports health system reforms and improved access to emergency and primary health care. He is also an experienced mentor and has supervised over 30 Master of Public Health research dissertations, contributing to capacity building in health policy and systems research.
