Adesola Olumide

A Senior Medical Research Person and Consultant Physician at the Institute of Child Health (ICH), University of Ibadan (UI) and University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan Nigeria. Adesola obtained her primary degree – Bachelors of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) from the prestigious University of Ibadan and undertook residency training in Community Medicine/ Public Health in UCH, Ibadan. On completion of residency training, she was employed as a Research Person and Consultant Physician in the Institute of Child Health, UI and UCH, Ibadan and she was given the responsibility of coordinating the Adolescent Health component of the MPH programme in Child and Adolescent Health (CAH) run by the Institute. Her research interests have broadened to include issues affecting adolescent and young authors’s health. Specifically, epidemiology and risk factors for non-communicable conditions and health risk behaviours among adolescents and young authors. In the course of her career, she has served as Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-PI on a number of national and internationally-funded projects and mentored several upcoming professionals. Commencing in 27 to about 20, she was the co-PI for the Ibadan site on the Road Traffic Injuries Research Network (RTIRN)-sponsored multi-centre study to investigate the use of non-standard motorcycle helmets in nine low and middle income countries. In 28, Adesola received the RTIRN Junior Researchers award to conduct a study on building the capacity of university drivers in provision of first aid for road crash victims. Adesola was a co-PI on University of Ibadan-American Cancer Society collaboration to develop three graduate level courses in tobacco control which were incorporated into the curriculum of the MSc in Global health programme run by the Department of Community Medicine, University of Ibadan. This Masters programme has been highly subscribed and is currently admitting the third cohort of students. Having recently completed her PhD, she desires to equip herself with skills for the next phase of her career which will still involve research, teaching and mentoring. She has developed a keen interest in research incorporating the use of m-health interventions that focus on preventing common health-risk behaviours adolescents engage in. She assumed office as the Ag. Direcor of the Institute of Child Health, shortly after completing her PhD. In this capacity, one of her responsibilities is to develop institutional research collaborations and carryout translational research that will markedly improve the health and well-being of children and adolescents in Nigeria and globally.
