As a mentor, he contributes to the Science Advice Skills Development Program (SASDP-2) at the International Network for Government Science Advice (INGSA), Rising Scholars (formerly AuthorAid), and the Makerere University Writing Center. He also serves as Head of Laity at St. Francis Chapel, Kabanyoro, Makerere University. His research interests span medicinal and aromatic plants, complementary and alternative medicine, pharmacognosy, ethnobotany, ethnopharmacology, microbiology, food and nutritional security, indigenous knowledge, nutraceuticals, poisonous plants, and neglected and underutilized food plants. He is an active member of numerous professional societies, including the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research, the International Society for Ethnopharmacology, the American Society of Pharmacognosy, the African Phytomedicine Scientific Society, and the Botanical Society of America, among others. Dr. Anywar has received multiple awards, including the Young Investigator Scholarship Award at the 19th International Congress of the International Society of Ethnopharmacology (Germany, 2019), travel awards to the Society of Economic Botany Conference (USA, 2019), the Vice Chancellor’s Research Excellence Awards at Makerere University (2024 & 2026), GA Travel Grants for the International Congress on Natural Products Research (Poland, 2024; Italy, 2025), and the Young Scientist Award in Phytochemicals & Medicinal Plants (Society for Plant Research, India, 2024). His work advances research in natural products, traditional knowledge, and sustainable health solutions in Africa and globally.
