Joselyn Atuhairwe

Joselyn is a PhD person from Makerere University School of Public Health, department of Disease Control and Environmental Health. She joined the department in March 2018 as a research person where she contributes to teaching and research. Joselyn holds a Master of Science degree in Biology and Control of Parasites and Disease Vectors from the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom. She is a person alumnus of the Uganda Advanced Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in the area of insect pest control. Prior to joining the academia, Joselyn worked with the Ministry of Health as a resident person at the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) and Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries as an entomologist. She has a wealth of experience in program design, implementation and analysis of data for program impact evaluation. She also has experience in designing surveillance systems. Coming from a programmatic background, Joselyn has a passion to generate evidence to inform policy and implementation. As such, her PhD study will characterize residual malaria transmission in areas where known effective malaria control interventions have been implemented in Uganda. This is in the hope of generating evidence to guide deployment of interventions geared towards malaria elimination. Joselyn has a passion to train and mentor future public health leaders and practitioners to spearhead control efforts of vector-borne, zoonotic and neglected tropical diseases in the public health arena. Her future career plan is to establish a collaborative centre of excellence for research on vector-borne, zoonotic and neglected tropical diseases.
