Lebogang Maseko

Lebogang Maseko has 8 years’ experience in academia as a lecturer in the Occupational Therapy Department, School of Therapeutic Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa for the undergraduate programmes as well as postgraduate research supervision and examination. Her teaching expertise lies in physical rehabilitation with a special interest in Spinal Cord Injury and Biomechanics. She is also the coordinator for the rural public health fieldwork for the final year Occupational Therapy students. She will be embarking on the development of a masters programme in rehabilitation together with other colleagues. Her research interests are in the field of public health, particularly health systems and policy research. In marrying her passion for both occupational therapy and public health she will be focusing her PhD on disability, rehabilitation services and the health system reforms in South Africa. Her qualifications include a BSc (OT) and MPH (Health Systems and Policy) both obtained from the University of the Witwatersrand. Her clinical experience includes working as an occupational therapist dealing with various physical and neurological conditions in both the public and private sectors in South Africa as well as the National Health Service (NHS) in England. Lebogang Maseko has been serving as Vice President for the Occupational Therapy Association of South Africa (OTASA) since 2010 and is an EXCO member of Rural Rehab South Africa (RuReSa) as well as a member of the Public Health Association of South Africa (PHASA). Her publications include: Maseko LJ, Erasmus AS, Di Rago T (2014). Factors that influence a choice of placement for community service among occupational therapists in South Africa. South African Journal of Occupational Therapy, 44 (1), pp. 36 – 41. Currently have an article accepted for publication in April 2018 in the South African Journal of Occupational Therapy entitled: Authors-centeredness in health system reform. Public perceptions of private and public hospitals in South Africa. She was also a recipient of the Association of Commonwealth Universities Early Academic Career Grant in July 2017 to attend an Occupational Therapy Africa Regional Group Conference in Ghana in September 2017. She is driven by her passion for authors and in particular authors development. Lebogang Maseko believes in the human spirit, she believes that anything is possible if one is willing to put in the hard work and that in everything there is a reason. Everyone has a purpose in life and it is up to each and every individual to realize that purpose.
